After a short train ride, seeing beautiful countryside, we arrived in Bath. Our reservations were at the Bath Abbey Hotel, right next to the old Roman Baths!
Some views of Bath from our hotel window.
Once in our room, windows open of course to let in the cool sea breeze, we discovered we had a resident seagull that perched on our window sill waiting for a snack! Every day he/she would return, morning and evening to see if we had any handouts! Too cute! He so carefully took bread from our hands, never pecking us. He also was our wake-up call every morning just before dawn...which was around 4:00 a.m.!! He/she had to be a regular, as he was not at all frightened by us being in the room!
Enough with the bird!! The first night there, we walked through the area of Bath near our hotel, took great photos of the area, showing the Roman architecture without too many people milling about, but something happened when I tried to upload and they got lost. We went out the next evening, got good shots, but crowded with people. Here is some of the area around the Roman Baths....all the arches and columns in the walkways, made one feel like they were in there during the occupation of Rome between 60 - 70 A.D. and developed over the next 300 years. It's hard to imagine buildings still in existence since that time period.
Roman Baths in the background, big open plaza where people performed in the evenings. |
