Alnwick Castle - Harry Potter Time!!

This journey is still Sunday, July 6. We had left our Glasgow cottage early in the morning, had driven down to Castle Douglas, then eastward to Hadrian's Wall and now we are leaving Hadrian's Wall, continuing eastward toward the east coast of the UK which put us down into England for a short time. We then headed a little north to Alnwick Castle. We were told it is pronounced an'-nick - The first parts of this castle were built around 1096 and has gone through several renovations. More was added on throughout the years up through the 14th century. It still amazes me that buildings built so long ago are still standing and I remain in awe of the labor involved in building such massive structures. This is just marvelous! This is the castle that was used in the outside scenes of the filming two of the Harry Potter movies. It is the home of the Duke and Dutches of Northumberland, which is a beautiful English countryside. It was quite a castle!!! Because it is a castle that is currently occupied, we were not allowed to take pictures inside the castle, and many areas were roped off, so we could not enter. There is so much history stored within these castle walls of battles and seiges.
